Education program experiences rapid growth amid the second wave of the global pandemic
Founder Shelby Herman created a 360 Show Your Glow program to help children gain confidence. A recent study by Tyton Partners shows that 75% of teachers feel that their students have fallen behind academically and/or socio-emotionally due to the pandemic. The need for content that helps children reconnect with the core values that live within them, prompting them to be socially competent and empowered is on the rise. Shelby Herman's book Shimmer the Glowworm focuses on the idea that we all have a light that can shine on ourselves and others if we accept it. Throughout the story, themes such as self-esteem, relationship building, sociability, emotional awareness, goal setting, empathy, and decision-making are revealed through the different characters. As part of the brand's outreach, the Show Your Glow program is currently used as part of the curriculum at a youth center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The effects of this program are very shocking. “A five-year-old boy with special needs surprised me by remembering the names of all the animals in this story. He was excited and asked me to repeat the story, ”says Dorothea McArthur PhD, ABPP, a clinical psychologist.
Elementary school educators can bring the curriculum to life by bringing Show Your Glow to the stage of their school. Shimmer the Glowworm: The Musical is an interactive way for kids to get involved in fundraising activities and booster clubs. Show Your Glow creator Shelby Herman brings more than 20 years of writing experience along with her career as a court reporter. As a single mother, she found herself in turbulent times.
